Privacy Policy
How OzBallers handles personal information, browser preferences and analytics data.
Last updated: 17 October 2026
1. About this policy
OzBallers is an Australian sports publication operated from Australia. This Privacy Policy explains the kinds of information we may collect, why we collect it, how it may be used or disclosed, and how you can contact us about privacy.
We aim to follow Australian privacy requirements and good privacy practice, including the principles of transparency, data minimisation and reasonable security.
2. Information we may collect
Depending on how you use OzBallers, we may collect:
- contact details you provide, such as your name and email address;
- messages, correction requests, privacy enquiries, copyright or licensing requests you submit;
- newsletter subscription information and unsubscribe status;
- your selected sports, followed players, timezone and other site preferences;
- anonymous or pseudonymous visitor identifiers used to understand repeat use of the site;
- technical and usage information such as pages viewed, referring page, timestamps, browser/device information and general interaction data;
- information generated by security and anti-spam systems when you submit forms.
3. How we collect information
We collect information directly from you when you submit a form, subscribe, change your preferences or otherwise provide information to us. We also collect some information automatically through browser storage, cookies, server logs and analytics technologies.
4. Cookies, browser storage and analytics
OzBallers uses browser storage and cookies for functions such as remembering your selected sports, followed players, timezone and anonymous visitor identifier.
We also use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use the site. Google Analytics may collect or receive information such as page URLs, device/browser information, approximate location derived from network information, interaction data and analytics identifiers. Google may process this information on systems outside Australia.
We do not intentionally send sensitive personal information, contact-form contents or email addresses to Google Analytics.
You can use browser settings or privacy tools to block or clear cookies and browser storage. Doing so may reset OzBallers preferences or reduce functionality.
5. Why we use information
We may use information to:
- operate, secure and improve OzBallers;
- remember your preferences and personalise your experience;
- measure readership, traffic sources and site performance;
- respond to enquiries, corrections, privacy requests and rights complaints;
- prevent spam, abuse and automated form submissions;
- send newsletters or other electronic communications where you have subscribed or otherwise consented;
- meet legal, regulatory, security and record-keeping obligations.
6. Contact forms and corrections
When you submit our contact or correction form, we store the information you provide in our database so we can review and respond to your request. We may also retain a pseudonymous visitor identifier and submission metadata for security, rate-limiting and anti-spam purposes.
Our form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to help distinguish legitimate visitors from automated abuse. Cloudflare may process technical information needed to provide that security service. Do not include unnecessary sensitive personal information in a contact or correction request.
7. Email and direct marketing
We will only send marketing or newsletter messages where we have an appropriate basis to do so, such as your express subscription. Commercial electronic messages will identify the sender and include an easy way to unsubscribe.
If you unsubscribe, we will stop sending marketing messages to that address within the period required by Australian law. We may retain a minimal suppression record so we can honour your unsubscribe request.
8. Third-party service providers
We may use reputable third-party providers to host the site, deliver infrastructure, provide analytics, prevent spam, send email, monitor errors or support other site functions. Those providers may receive limited information necessary to provide their services.
We do not sell your personal information to advertisers.
9. Overseas processing
Some service providers, including analytics, cloud and security providers, may process or store information outside Australia. Where Australian privacy law applies, we aim to take reasonable steps appropriate to the circumstances when using overseas service providers.
10. Data retention
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, to maintain appropriate records, resolve disputes, prevent abuse or meet legal obligations. Retention periods may differ depending on the type of information.
Analytics data may be retained in aggregated or pseudonymous form for longer periods where it is useful for understanding site performance and does not reasonably identify you.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect information against unauthorised access, misuse, interference, loss, alteration or disclosure. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
12. Access, correction and privacy requests
You may contact us to ask about personal information we hold about you, request correction where appropriate, or raise a privacy concern. Use the contact form and select Privacy.
We may need to verify your identity before giving access to personal information or making certain changes.
13. Complaints
If you have a privacy complaint, please contact us first so we can review it. If Australian privacy law applies to the matter and you remain dissatisfied, you may have the right to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
14. Children
OzBallers is a general sports publication and is not designed to collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the site inappropriately, please contact us.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our services, technology or legal obligations change. The latest version will always be published on this page.
