Miloš Degenek

Miloš Degenek is an Australian international centre-back who plays for APOEL FC in Cyprus. Born in Knin, Croatia, on 28 April 1994, he moved to Australia as a child and developed through the New South Wales football pathway before beginning his senior career in Germany. He has represented Australia at the 2018, 2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cups and at the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.

Miloš Degenek was born in Knin, Croatia, and moved with his family to Australia at the age of six after fleeing the conflict in the former Yugoslavia. Raised in Sydney, he began playing through the Football NSW pathway, including Bonnyrigg White Eagles, Blacktown City, Westfields Sports High School, the NSW Institute of Sport and the Australian Institute of Sport. His development led to a move to Germany with VfB Stuttgart in 2012. Degenek initially played in Stuttgart’s youth and reserve structures before progressing to senior football with VfB Stuttgart II. His first major professional breakthrough came with TSV 1860 Munich during the 2015–16 2. Bundesliga season, when he established himself as a regular first-team defender. He made his senior Australia debut against England on 27 May 2016, having previously represented both Serbia and Australia at youth level before committing internationally to Australia. A mobile and physical defender, Degenek has principally played at centre-back but has also been used in wider defensive roles. His club career has included VfB Stuttgart, TSV 1860 Munich, Yokohama F. Marinos, Red Star Belgrade, Al-Hilal and Columbus Crew, followed by a return to European football. His most recent professional context is APOEL FC in Cyprus, where he is listed as a defender and wore number 5 during the 2025–26 Cyprus League season. Internationally, he has been selected for three FIFA World Cups—2018, 2022 and 2026—and the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.
