Birrell fights back to advance at US Open

Kimberly Birrell produced a determined comeback to defeat Petra Marcinko in the US Open Round of 128 in New York. The Australian lost the opening set 6-3 but levelled the contest by taking the second set 7-6(4), before completing the turnaround with a 6-3 victory in the decider. Birrell finished with a 2-1 match win, recording two sets won and one set lost. The result came after a tense second-set tie-break and set up a hard-earned progression in the 2026 tournament.
