Mead homers as Nationals fall to Yankees

Curtis Mead provided Washington’s key offensive contribution in the Nationals’ 5–3 home loss to the New York Yankees at Nationals Park. He went 1-for-2, scoring once and driving in one run, with his hit a home run that produced four total bases. Mead also recorded no strikeouts, walks or errors. Washington opened with a one-run first inning and added single runs in the sixth and seventh, but the Yankees responded with two runs in the fifth, two in the eighth and the decisive run in the ninth. The result left the Nationals short despite Mead’s efficient two at-bats and power contribution.
