Bonetig features as Portland fall late to Austin
Alex Bonetig came off the bench for Portland Timbers as Austin secured a 2–1 win at Providence Park on 30 August 2026. The Australian defender, listed as a substitute, recorded an appearance in his sixth game of the season and played in Portland’s back line without conceding a recorded individual goal or receiving a card. Portland trailed 1–0 at half-time after F. Torres struck in the 25th minute, despite holding 49 per cent possession and producing 13 shots, including five on target. Antony levelled from the penalty spot in the 89th minute, but Austin restored its lead through O. Svatok seven minutes into stoppage time. Portland completed 484 passes at 86 per cent accuracy and generated 1.46 expected goals, but Austin’s four goalkeeper saves helped preserve the visitors’ victory. Bonetig’s involvement provided defensive depth, though the Timbers could not hold on for a point in a frantic finish.
