O’Connell advances, Sweeny falls in Cincinnati qualifier

Australian Christopher O’Connell defeated compatriot Dane Sweeny 6-7(3) 6-2 7-5 in the first-round qualifying match at the Cincinnati Open. O’Connell won two sets to one in a contest lasting 2:35:18, recovering from a first-set tiebreak loss before taking the second set 6-2 and the deciding set 7-5. Sweeny won the opening set 7-6(3), but could not close out the match after O’Connell levelled and edged the final set. O’Connell’s victory takes him through to the next stage of qualifying, while Sweeny was eliminated after winning one set.
