Dane Sweeny falls in Montreal qualifying thriller

Australian Dane Sweeny was beaten by Japan’s Shintaro Mochizuki in the first-round qualifying at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers in Montreal. Sweeny made a strong start, taking the opening set 6-1, but Mochizuki levelled the match by winning the second-set tiebreak 7-6(5). The Japanese player then secured the deciding set 6-3 to complete a 1-6 7-6(5) 6-3 victory. Sweeny won one set and lost two in a match lasting 2:28:34.
