O’Connell advances in three-set Montreal qualifier

Australian Christopher O’Connell defeated Jaime Faria 6-7(8), 6-2, 6-4 in the first-round qualifying at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers in Montreal. O’Connell recovered after losing a tightly contested opening-set tiebreak, taking the second set 6-2 before completing the comeback with a 6-4 deciding-set win. The match lasted 2:33:35, with O’Connell finishing with two sets won to one. No other Australian players were supplied for this event.
