Bonhomme's first clearly documented international breakthrough was winning the 1997 Vietnam Open on the Omega Tour, then the Asian professional circuit. The victory was recorded as his first Asian Tour win and helped establish him internationally after his early Australian professional career.

His defining competitive moments include the 1997 Vietnam Open victory, the 1995 Singapore Open runner-up finish and the 2007 Queensland PGA Championship win. The Queensland victory came after a final-round 66 and a closing birdie, with Bonhomme finishing two strokes ahead of Michael Curtain and Darren Beck. He also reached the 2007 PGA TOUR Q-School second-stage pathway and secured starts in the Australian PGA Championship and Australian Open through his Queensland result.
