Brett Rumford

Brett Michael Rumford is an Australian professional golfer from Perth, Western Australia. A specialist short-game player, he won six times on the European Tour, including two titles in consecutive weeks in 2013 and the 2017 ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth. His provider status is Inactive as at 23 August 2026. In addition to his playing career, Rumford has pursued PGA of Australia vocational qualifications and coaching work.

Born in Perth on 27 July 1977, Brett Rumford began playing golf at eight and developed his game in Western Australia. He represented Australia as an amateur and won the 1999 ANZ Players Championship on the PGA Tour of Australasia before turning professional in 2000. His early development was built around touch, imagination and repetition in the short game, an area that became his defining professional strength. Rumford also spent time caddying and practising at Perth courses, where he developed the bunker and recovery-shot skills that later made him one of the most respected short-game players on the international circuit. He was attached to Royal Perth and has been associated with the Western Australian golf community throughout his career. Rumford progressed through international qualifying and the Challenge Tour pathway before establishing himself on the European Tour. He won his first European Tour title at the 2003 Aa St Omer Open, followed by the 2004 Nissan Irish Open and the 2007 Omega European Masters. He earned PGA Tour status for 2008 through qualifying school and recorded a career-best PGA Tour finish of tied eighth at the 2008 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. His best major-championship result was tied 16th at The Open Championship in 2006. The peak of his European Tour career came in 2013, when he won the Ballantine's Championship and Volvo China Open in successive weeks and finished a career-high 17th in the Race to Dubai. After losing his Tour card, Rumford returned to winning form at home in the 2017 ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth, a victory that gave him six European Tour titles. His later career was affected by wrist problems and abdominal surgery in 2015 to treat a small-intestinal blockage. In 2020, he began the PGA of Australia's bridging programme through Wembley Golf Course while continuing to indicate that he was not finished playing.
