Brett Coletta

Brett Coletta is an Australian professional golfer from Melbourne, Victoria, born on 6 July 1996. He turned professional in 2016 after a strong amateur career and has competed across the PGA Tour of Australasia, PGA TOUR, Korn Ferry Tour, Japan Golf Tour and DP World Tour pathways. Brett Coletta grew up in Melbourne and is associated with Sandhurst Club, where he developed after first being introduced to golf by his father at approximately six years of age. Although he played representative cricket and opened the batting for Parkdale United Cricket Club, he chose to focus seriously on golf during Year 9. His development was supported by Golf Australia’s high-performance programmes and coach Martin Joyce.

Coletta emerged as one of Australia’s leading amateurs in 2015 and 2016. He won the stroke-play qualifying component of the 2015 U.S. Amateur at Olympia Fields and reached the world’s top amateur rankings. In October 2016, he narrowly missed a Masters invitation after finishing runner-up to fellow Australian Curtis Luck at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in South Korea. Two weeks later, still an amateur, he won the Queensland Open at Brisbane Golf Club, becoming the first amateur winner of the event since Stuart Appleby in 1991. He followed that performance with a runner-up finish in the New South Wales Open, including a course-record-equalling 10-under-par 62 in the opening round.

Coletta turned professional in January 2017. His professional debut came at the SMBC Singapore Open, where he made the cut. He later received a sponsor invitation to the PGA TOUR’s Memorial Tournament and finished tied 25th, earning his first PGA TOUR prize money. He also finished tied sixth at the 2016 Australian PGA Championship before formally joining the professional ranks.
