Andrew Bogut

Andrew Bogut is a retired Australian basketball centre whose provider record identifies him as an inactive Milwaukee Bucks forward/centre. Andrew Bogut grew up in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs and progressed through Victorian junior clubs before joining the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. His development accelerated internationally when he was named tournament MVP as Australia won the 2003 FIBA Under-19 World Championship. After two seasons at the University of Utah, where he became one of college basketball’s leading big men, Bogut was selected first overall by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2005—the first Australian to receive that honour. A 2.13-metre centre, he combined interior scoring and rebounding with passing, screening, rim protection and defensive positioning. He earned NBA All-Rookie First Team recognition in his debut season and spent seven seasons with Milwaukee before moving to the Golden State Warriors in 2012. Bogut was a defensive and playmaking anchor for the Warriors’ 2015 NBA championship team and formed part of the 2015–16 side that set the NBA regular-season record at 73 wins. Later NBA stops included the Dallas Mavericks, Cleveland Cavaliers and a return to Golden State. He returned to Australia in 2018 to play for the Sydney Kings, winning the NBL MVP award and the NBL Best Defensive Player award. Bogut also represented the Australian Boomers at the Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games, missing London 2012 through injury. Australia finished fourth at Rio, its best men’s Olympic result at that time. Bogut ended his playing career after the 2019 NBL season and has since remained involved in basketball through the Sydney Kings and Basketball Australia. FIBA inducted him into its Hall of Fame in 2025.
