Taran Armstrong

Born on 15 January 2002 and raised in Burnie, Tasmania, Taran Armstrong grew up around basketball through his father Ben and uncle Sam, who played semi-professionally in the North-West Basketball Union. He began organised basketball at approximately five or six years of age. Armstrong emerged as a creative, pass-first guard and represented Australia in junior international competitions before moving to the United States for college basketball. At California Baptist University, he played two seasons for the Lancers and became the first Cal Baptist player to win Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year. He also set the programme’s single-game assists record with 15 against North Dakota in December 2021. Armstrong returned to Australia for the Cairns Taipans, where he developed into a starting-calibre NBL point guard and averaged 17.1 points, 4.7 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game in the 2024–25 season. His NBL form led to a two-way contract with the Golden State Warriors in February 2025. He subsequently played for the Santa Cruz Warriors in the NBA G League, averaging 11.5 points, 7.8 assists and 6.0 rebounds across 11 games in 2024–25. After a period with Dubai Basketball, Armstrong returned to Australia in 2026, signing a two-year deal with the Tasmania JackJumpers, including an option for the second season. His game is built around ball-handling, playmaking, transition decision-making and the ability to create for teammates. As of 18 August 2026, the latest official NBL information places him with Tasmania rather than on the active Golden State NBA roster.
