Awer Bul Mabil

Awer Bul Mabil is an Australian international footballer born in Kakuma, Kenya, on 15 September 1995. A right-sided winger or forward, he developed in South Australia, progressed through Adelaide United and built a long European career across Denmark, Portugal, Turkey, Spain, the Czech Republic and Switzerland. Mabil was born to South Sudanese parents in Kakuma Refugee Camp in north-western Kenya and moved with his family to Adelaide at about 10 years of age. He began playing informally in the camp before joining South Australian junior football, including Playford City, the South Australian National Training Centre and the Adelaide United academy. His pace, direct running and ability to attack from wide positions established him as a winger capable of playing on either flank or higher as a forward. Mabil made his senior debut for Campbelltown City before appearing in the A-League for Adelaide United in 2013. He later moved to FC Midtjylland in Denmark, where loans to Esbjerg fB and Paços de Ferreira provided first-team experience. His European pathway also included Kasımpaşa, Cádiz, Sparta Prague and Grasshopper Club Zürich before his move to CD Castellón. Football Australia records his senior international debut against Kuwait on 15 October 2018. He was part of Australia’s 2019 Asian Cup squad and the 2022 World Cup squad, and was recalled for the 2026 FIFA Series. Outside football, he has co-founded Barefoot to Boots, a charity supporting refugees, and was named Young Australian of the Year in January 2023.
