Whilst it is expected that the list of current players participating in the NBA this year will be selected for Paris pending any injuries, we need to look at other players both in the NBL and overseas that could gain selection into the team.
From the NBL players like Nathan Sobey, Chris Goulding, Mangok Mathiang, Rocco Zikarsky, Dejan Vasiljevic as a start could be considered for certain roles in the team. Add to this a number of other Australian players participating outside of Australia also may come into consideration. Having just completed a search of players within the USA outside of the NBA Tyrese Proctor playing for Duke University and Jack White playing in the G League could be considered. White has represented Australia in recent times whilst Proctor is highly rated as an emerging talent. Xavier Cookes also a recent Boomer and currently playing in Japan would also add further height and experience to the squad. Then we need to look at who is playing in European leagues and some stand outs are Brock Motum, Nick Kay (also a fellow Boomer) and Dominic Gilbert are names to be considered. Some of the players mentions have duel citizenship so obviously their ability for selection would depend upon the country they nominate. During my search I was able to view some game videos of Dominic Gilbert who was most impressive in his outside shooting (41.9% from the three-point line) and his ability to penetrate the paint to both shoot and pass to others. This player could be one of the missing links that we have with regard to an outside shooter, very impressive.
So, when you take in consideration all of the players mentioned above and those in the NBA the Boomers selectors have a good mix of talent to select from and an opportunity to at least introduce new players and talent into the Boomer family either as selection for Paris or for the future.
I am sure that there are other emerging talents out there as basketball continues to grow in Australia and our players seek development and opportunities both at home and overseas.
Go Boomers!!
