With the Olympics coming up a look at what the Australian team my look like is the question?

One would think all of the current NBA players would be selected leaving a couple of spaces for outside the NBA players to join the team. So how are we looking with regards to balance or what may be missing, Two areas perhaps need to be addressed are, one another big man in the centre position, by big I mean a strong solid under the basket rebounder/defender.

When you look at what we will be up against we are a bit light on in this area for example we possibly need a player of the build of Aaron Bayne, strong intimidator. Reath has developed strongly this year, but he needs help, Landale is a good back up but perhaps lacks in build. The other possible area we are short of is a “shooter”, Mills, could fill this role as others can move the ball up court then we have Ingles, and possibly Daniel's, Thybulle, so who could perhaps be the added shooter, when you look at the NBL the standard is Bry Cotton, ranked #1 and Chris Goulding, raked #10 currently.

Australia as a country has really botched the opportunity for Cotton to play for Australia as a result of a crazy immigration matter. Sadly now Bryce has indictated that he has lost interest in suiting up for the Boomers, what a lost opportunity!

Goulding has been part of the boomer’s roster for a number of years so it makes some sense that he continues in the team to come on into the shooter role. The balance within the squad would be fairly strong as Simmons, Ingles, Thybulle, Landale and Daniels can switch in at the different times to build a second unit along with other/added players.

My starting Five would be:

Exum – SG

Giddey – PG

Reath – C

Green - F

Mills – F

These are my thoughts, and I'm eager to hear what others think. I'd also welcome suggestions for other players who could be in contention for selection into the team.
