Season So Far

So, what’s happening in the NBA for our Aussie players in 2023-24, in some cases not a lot. It seems hard to understand what has changed in a year, in 2022-23 we had several players having a great season and impact for their teams, Josh Giddy, Patty, Landale and the others, then came trade time. Along with the trades a number of the players have been traded to teams that perhaps didn’t want them (this may be a bit harsh) but when you look at it, it seems hard not to think this way.

You only need to look at the stats and you can clearly see this is the case, have the Aussie players fallen out of grace with the coaches? For example, you have one of the most experienced, enthusiastic and passionate point guards sitting on the bench for the Hawkes.

Let’s look a little deeper into how the game is being played from an observation view point. It would seem that the game has become very centric, by this I mean teams are centering on one or two players to do the hard yards and of course score the points for the team. You don’t have to be “blind freddy” to see what I mean and I don’t need to go through team by team.

This season has seen the emergence of a number of new players and or those in their second season developing from their first, has this helped our Aussie players get more game time or maintain the past time on court? I suggest it has not helped but the question could be have our players lost their skills, I say no.

It will be interesting to watch the season as it progresses and what if anything will happen in the pending trade period.
